About the Opportunity
Hamad Bin Khalifa University is based in Education City in Qatar and offers undergraduate and graduate programs through several colleges. Students apply to a specific academic program, and each program sets its own admission requirements.
HBKU also offers financial support, but the amount and type of assistance depend on the student’s program and circumstances. Graduate support may include a tuition waiver and, for some full-time students, a monthly stipend connected to research or teaching work. Awards are competitive and depend on available funds.
Undergraduate applicants should note that financial aid has a separate process. HBKU says admitted undergraduate students may apply for need-based aid after admissions decisions are released.
Graduate Scholarship Benefits
HBKU’s published graduate scholarship guidelines list these stipend rates for selected international students:
- Master’s: QAR 7,000 per month, for up to 21 months.
- PhD: QAR 9,000 per month, for up to 45 months.
Tuition support is determined by program. HBKU lists different waiver rates for different degree types and colleges, and some programs do not include a tuition waiver. Check the current guidelines for your intended program.
- International graduate students receiving a stipend may be eligible for one inbound flight when they begin their program and one outbound flight when they graduate.
- Students pay their own housing costs. These costs are not paid separately by HBKU and should be budgeted from the stipend or other funds.
- Students receiving a stipend are expected to work as research assistants for 10 hours per week under the published guidelines.
- Funding is not automatic: HBKU says awards depend on merit or financial need and available funds.
Eligibility and Admission Requirements
There is no single set of academic requirements for every HBKU program. Applicants should confirm that they meet the entry criteria for their chosen degree and college before applying.

- Check the required prior degree and field of study for the program.
- Prepare any program-specific test scores or supporting materials.
- Graduate funding is limited and subject to the university’s selection process and available funds.
- Undergraduate financial aid follows a separate process; admitted students should check HBKU’s instructions.
