About the Scholarship
The selected student will complete thesis research investigating how the abundance and diversity of small mammals affect Gray Fox occupancy across different Louisiana habitats. The research will cover longleaf pine forests, bottomland hardwood forests, and agricultural-forest edges.
The project uses field research, camera trapping, small-mammal surveys, GIS, occupancy modeling, and wildlife habitat analysis. Students will gain experience in wildlife research, teaching, scientific writing, data analysis, and professional development while working in areas related to wildlife ecology, mammalogy, conservation biology, and quantitative ecology.

Eligibility Criteria
- Hold a B.S. degree in Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrate an interest in wildlife ecology, mammalogy, conservation biology, or quantitative ecology.
- Experience with field research, wildlife surveys, GIS, R, or statistical analysis is desirable but not mandatory.
- Possess strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Be capable of working independently during extended outdoor fieldwork.
