About the Scholarship

The ARES Scholarship supports international students and professionals from eligible partner countries who wish to undertake selected bachelor's, specialised master's, and continuing education programs in Belgium. Supported fields include areas related to international development, such as health, agriculture, environmental studies, information technology, economics, food technology, human rights, GIS, aquaculture, and microfinance.

Selected applicants can receive financial support covering international travel, living expenses, tuition fees, insurance, and certain visa-related costs. Bachelor's and specialised master's programs can last up to 12 months, while continuing education programs can last up to 6 months.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be permanent residents and working in one of the eligible countries.
• Palestinian nationals may apply even if they do not reside in one of the listed eligible countries.
• Applicants must hold a relevant higher education or graduate degree and satisfy the admission requirements of their chosen program.
• The relevant academic degree must generally have been obtained no more than 20 years before the start of the program.
• Applicants must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in an eligible country between completing their latest graduate degree and the application deadline.
• Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the language in which their selected program is taught.
• Applicants may apply for only one program.
• Eligible countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam, and Palestine.

• Documents required to demonstrate relevant professional experience.
• Academic documents required for admission to the selected program.
• Application materials submitted through the GIRAF platform.
• Other supporting documents required by the selected ARES program.

2. Create and validate an account on the ARES GIRAF application platform.
3. Log in to your GIRAF account and access the “Competitive Calls” section.
4. Select “Application – International Training 2027–2028.”
5. Complete the application form and save it as a draft if additional information is needed.
6. Review your application carefully and ensure all required sections are completed.
7. Submit the completed application through GIRAF.
8. After submission, the application can no longer be edited.
